It is a great organization that I have had the opportunity to be involved with ever since my college days.
It has been a great source of support and encouragement to me and I know many of our athletes need the same.
This morning we had about 12 kids show up which was a great start. I have been saying that we will do it every other week but these kids want to do it EVERY week. How awesome is that. You might ask why? Why would they want to do it every week? What do we do at our FCA meetings?
I believe that there is a small group of athletes at JMS that truely want to be good leaders. They want to do what is right. It is my goal and the goal of our FCA group to encourage them in their leadership roll. We want to show them what good leadership looks like. How does good leadership act? In the hallway, classroom and on the court.
JMS has the opportunity to open a new campus next year. The 8th graders this year have missed out on that but, they still get to leave the legacy of caring for and taking care of what we have. I have some great leaders in the 8th grade. I want them to teach the 7th graders what that looks like and how it sounds.
This morning we talked about things we have hated about this year and things that we have loved. Things they hated: drama, attitudes and lack of leadership. Things they loved: athletics, cafeteria food (?) and science! (I threw in science...:)
We spent some time talking about the things we have hated. It was mentioned that when things are difficult (drama and attitudes) we still have to do what is right in those situations. Then, what does right look like? We ended with why exactly to do we do 'what is right'? Answers were because its the rules of school, safety and ultimately because it is what God asks of us. the scripture used is Colossians 3:17: "Whether in word or deed, do it in the name of the Lord Jesus."
We shouldn't do the right thing because its the rule or because our parents say so but because it is God's expectation of us. We are all equal in this and that should be very comforting.
FCA is open to all students and we are meeting on Thursdays in the JMS cafeteria at 7 am.
