This flipclass deals with a ppt on flow of energy and a microscope practice quiz. There will be a quiz on Thursday over both.

The students did a great job with their rough drafts of songs/raps and poems of photosynthesis. I hope to get some uploaded by Monday.
We will be talking about composting and flow of energy and food webs next week. Should be interesting.... The students will be answering this question by creating a song, rap or a poem to share the photosynthesis equation with us. This will lead us into our next step of the breakdown of elements and transfer of energy.
What a week this was! Our area finally received rain. So much rain that our brand new school flooded! Our library had 2 inches of water in it after receiving 5+ inches of rain over night. That was a tough blow for all of us to take. No one wants to have to deal with something like that and thankfully it wasn't any worse than it was. We are still waiting for our chromebooks to roll out and wi-fi to get going. We got creative this week and did some different things with vocabulary. We ended up having a really fun day on Wednesday. I ended up not having any internet in my classroom so we put the words up on the board and asked, "who thinks they know a word"? Then I said, "I'll give you a sticker"! Oh man, it got pretty intense in some classes. It was very entertaining definitely. It was good to relax, have fun and do something educational with the kids. There were lots of stickers awarded and I was pleased with what the students came in knowing. I have included a #picstitch of some of the silly boys. Vocab check Thursday, notebook check Friday, and vocab TEST on Friday.
Flipclass this week is the vocabulary for our next project/unit. You are required to sketch a picture with the word. Don't forget to make a foldable! See Quizlet for the correct link. We had our first club day today. I am very excited about it since I am doing Chess Club. We will also be able to compete in UIL since we will have some experience in it. We wrapped up our lab safety videos and the kids did a great job. I couldn't be more proud of what they did. We were so limited by technology this week-I actually had none in my classroom today.... The kids were to film on their own devices, if they were wiling, and then do the best that they could with the revising and editing parts by using an ap to put it all together. The biggest drawback has been the ability to share them with me via email The best plan for sharing it appears is them putting them on a youtube channel. So, we are working on getting that going. I am excited to share them next week. We also had one group that decided to make theirs bilingual. I really, really can't wait to see that and share it with you. Another new thing that we started is allowing the kids to have a say in the making of their rubrics. They went into knowing their driving question and problem statement and knows and need to knows. They were sure about anything else. They created the standards and were pretty creative. I believe that it gives the students ownership in their own learning. They were to put into the rubric the things which they thought were important to them on projects. It was a fun process-even for me. This was a tough week because of the technology. I am hoping that in week 3 things will get resolved. I want to share with my students and share my students work with the world. GET READY FOR GREATNESS!!!! #jmsnewbegginnings14 Monday will be our 3 week grade check. (This grading period only has 5 weeks in it.) The students have been working hard in class and have been expected to get things signed and turned back in. We also did a notebook check for our 2nd week of school. That has mainly been about following directions and listening skills. The Table of Contents is listed on our whiteboard and is on instagram (if they have that) or they have been allowed to take pictures of it on their cellphones so they could organize Thursday night. On our notes page, which I list every Monday on my blog, the students have access to the notes all week long. It is updated daily and the dates and pages numbers are there so that they can stay organized daily.
If a student finds that they are struggling with a grade they are expected to fill out the Google Form on my HOMEWORK tab. This requires them to answer some questions and think about what they have done-or haven't done in order to take care of their grade. I am excited to see how this piece of communication works. Please encourage your student to use it. Another tab you might want to check out is my calendar page. This will be an updated timeline of our projects and other school events listed in real time. Let me know if you have any questions. Today as we begin our Unit 1 Lab Safety Unit, each class will be creating their own rubric to grade the projects by. It is a very interesting project to take on with a classroom full of students. They see the objectives and must align their standards with those to make sure they cover the correct material. It is fun giving them control and seeing what they truely care about and want to see be graded. I do give my input on what should be included but it is mostly them creating. Each classes rubric will be included in this blog for easy access outside of class. Due date and parent signatures are there. Please pay attention to those details.
