What an incredible story this is for Rahmaniya. She faces threats from her own brother in order to go to school. He threatens to throw acid on her face or even cut her.
Our kids in the U.S. have an awesome privilege to get a quality education and we complain about homework, or tests, or equipment.
The kids today were faced with the fact of not everyone in the world has it as good as they do. Some don't care. Some don't truly understand. We as teachers will continue to teach them, nag them, even beg them to come to school and hopefully one day they will realize what they have and take advantage of it.
Some do. Some are very thankful for the opportunities they have and are trying. They are taking advantage of everything they can and doing the best that they can.
I am thankful that I am in a community that cherishes its teachers and a school district that continues to support and train. We will do what is best for these kids and we will all be better for it.
