We had some limitations with not wanting to share our work through 5 different emails and wanted something a bit quicker so we just finished editing and then had an open comment box at the bottom. The students could have shared via facebook or google + but we didn't want to open that door.
We had the students rotate once chromebook to their right and gave them 3 minutes to quickly scan for any mistakes that caught their eye. I also told them that they must share an "I like..." statement. That was difficult. We had some students that had been absent and did not have much accomplished so their comments were very limiting. There were great comments like "you spelled ____wrong", or "make sure and check your capitalization or punctuation at the beginning or ending of a sentence."
We rotated 3 times and then the students sat down to read their comments. They were nervous. Some were mad because they misspelled something. Some argued about punctuation. It was great. The best comment that I heard today was, "Coach Boyd, this is really helpful". I love it! That was the goal.
Now tomorrow we must do a brief critical friend time to check the science part of the project and make sure we are addressing w, e, and d. Hopefully we are. I know that the kids have been having smarter conversations about it when asked specific questions. I am so encouraged about the learning going on in room 410!
Don't forget the due date for the Smore is Thursday the 31st. We will have our assessment over it on Friday.
The kids are doing great, LET'S KEEP IT UP!!!
